I've Just Seen a Face: Across The Universe

Shout out: Jake Prosnit!

This song just makes me smile. I remember when the movie came out in 2007. The year I graduated from high school. Wow. I was living in Israel at the time and I remember going to see the movie in a Tel Aviv movie theater with my brother, Daniel. In Israel they allow time for an intermission during the movie. I guess for a smoke break? Ha. This is just a really fun re-make of a Beatles' classic.

wish they could ACTUALLY take me to the moon

Okay, moment of truth. What do you think about these snow moon boots?

Now, I am not much of a snow skier [more of a water skiing kinda gal], but I have been invited to go skiing for the holidays. I have no fashionable ski clothes at all, just the crazy 80's business my mom has stashed in the attic. I need to get some snow clothes pronto. Help!

Stumbled into these interesting boots at Nordstrom Rack.  They are called the Snugger Snow boot by FitFlop. They are supposed to be those kind of shoes where you get a workout while you walk, but at least they don't have that goofy look. Reviews online have said these boots are pretty waterproof, so that sounds nice. But I am just not 100% sold.

Any thoughts? Thanks for sharing!

Edamame in the house

I've been really into spinach and edamame salad lately. Not so much with the corn, but with some chives, mini raisins, & sunflower seeds. I like to throw on just a little bit of kosher salt, freshly ground pepper, and olive oil. Healthy and Delish! I'll have to find out more about these extra mini raisins because they are awesome!

Texas Rangers, Josh Hamilton included in celebration

I think this is a great story. A true example of understanding, responsibility, & team loyalty. Now, although I am a born and bred Houstonian and Astros fan, I am indeed happy for the success of the Texas Rangers and I am rooting for them all the way!

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Josh Hamilton's teammates weren't going to celebrate without him this time.

As soon as the Texas Rangers hugged on the field and headed for the tunnel following a 5-1 ALDS Game 5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, the clubhouse attendants told Hamilton to get his goggles on.

Hamilton, who has battled drug and alcohol addiction, said it's best for him not to be around champagne. So he walked into the clubhouse to find his teammates waiting on him and holding bottles of Canada Dry ginger ale.

"Everybody yelled 'Ginger ale!' and I just jumped in the middle of the pile and they doused me with it," Hamilton said. "It was the coolest thing for my teammates to understand why I can't be a part of the celebration, and for them to adapt it for me to be a part of it says a lot about my teammates."

When the club clinched the AL West title in Oakland in September, many of players grabbed water bottles and tried to find Hamilton to douse him. But he had already changed clothes and was ready to speak to some church groups in the stadium as part of Faith Day in Oakland. This time, he looked as wet as everyone else."

"It was pretty amazing to get a little taste of what the celebration was like," Hamilton said. "The guys really doused me good. This stuff burns your eyes just like the alcohol does."

5 Stars: Uchi, Austin

If you are looking for mind-blowing sushi in Austin, Uchi is the place to go. Owner and executive chef Tyson Cole has created a sensational menu of Japanese fusion dishes that feature the most fresh fish you will ever taste! Without fail, the unique combination of flavors never ceases to amaze the palate. My personal favorite dish is the Machi Cure. This dish is a maplewood-smoked baby yellowtail with yucca chips, asian pear, marcona almonds, garlic brittle, and golden raisins. Just thinking about it my mouth starts to water.

Elie Tahari: Baily Leather Tote

Love this bag. It is beautiful. I had the opportunity to spend this past summer living in NYC and interning for Elie Tahari. I worked in the accessories production department. This includes handbags, shoes, hats, & belts. It was a wonderful learning experience, and the company treated me so well. The handbag pictured was not part of the collections I worked on, as it was already in stores by the time I started working. However, I strolled past this beauty in the window display everyday on my way to work. At the end of the summer, with a little employee discount, I could not help but get one for my mom!

Whole-Wheat Spaghetti with Lemon, Basil, and Salmon

Website's Picture
Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis, The Food Network
My roommate and I cooked this Giada recipe! It was so good and so easy too. You can do it! Feel free to make substitutions in the recipe for flavors that you prefer more! (I cut out the capers.)

 Ingredients
Our Very Own Picture
  • 1/2 pound whole-wheat spaghetti pasta
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more for seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more for seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 (4-ounce) pieces salmon
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons capers
  • 1 lemon, zested
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 cups fresh baby spinach leaves

Directions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain pasta and transfer to a large bowl. Add the garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss to combine.

Meanwhile, warm the olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Season the salmon with salt and pepper. Add the fish to the pan and cook until medium-rare, about 2 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the fish. Remove the salmon from the pan.

Add the basil, capers, lemon zest, and lemon juice to the spaghetti mixture and toss to combine. Set out 4 serving plates or shallow bowls. Place 1/2 cup spinach in each bowl. Top with 1/4 of the pasta. Top each mound of pasta with a piece of salmon. Serve immediately.

Legalize Marijuana

I recognize that this a rather controversial topic. I was given an assignment for a class project, and here is what I came up with. Using Photoshop and iMovie, I was able to create the following video.
