I have been working on this incredible pro-Israel event.
Israel Block Party will cover the UT South Mall from top to bottom in colorful tents that feature the many unique qualities of Israel. We have decided to highlight four of the most prominent cities in the country- Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Be’er Sheva. Each of the representative tents will be filled with informative posters, banners, and other unique items to help demonstrate the advancements of Israeli culture. A selection of tents include Business & Technology, Humanitarian Aid, Environmental Technology, and many more. Tents will also include an interactive component for attendees to actively engage in the material. These activities include “Historical Jeopardy”, “Cash Cab”, basketball shoot-out, face painting, button making, and more. Block Party will also showcase a Hookah tent in addition to an imitation Shuk or Israeli style Market. The shuk will be filled with produce, fresh juicing, Israeli food sampling, and t-shirts for sale, and it will be elaborately decorated in tapestries, soccer jerseys, and much more. It will be a colorful explosion!
More things to look forward to at Israel Block Party include the Falafel Café and ongoing entertainment. Throughout the day we will have performances by drummers and Israeli dancers. The day will excitingly culminate with an evening performance by up and coming Israeli band, Onili.
We have over 13 committees comprised of more than 60 student volunteers helping to plan this monumental event. Well over 100 volunteers will be in assistance on the day of the Party itself. Since our event will be taking place right in the middle of campus, we anticipate close to 3,000 UT students, faculty, and staff to peruse the event throughout the day. In addition, we expect a great turnout from the Austin Jewish community as well as supporters from all over Texas, including state and local legislators. With all this put together, the 2011 Israel Block Party will be one of the largest and greatest pro-Israel event of the year.
