3rd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational

WE DID IT!

This past weekend myself and fellow teammates Avi Goren & Joe MacNaughten entered into Austin's 3rd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational. Wow. What a sight! (And a bit of a tummy ache too, but it was worth it.)

This annual event is sponsored by Chedd's Gourmet Grilled Cheese and one of my personal favorites local shops- Antonelli's Cheese.

In our first round of competition, we were up in the Kama Sutra category; basically any kind of bread, cheese, and whatever else you want. Our "Red Light District" sandwich consisted of:
- Sourdough Bread, Buttered on one side
- Smoked Bacon, Apple, & Chive Chutney
- Smoked Gouda Cheese
- Freshly Shaved Guyere Cheese (From Antonelli's)
- And Brie!
 I really thought we nailed this one, but the critics felt otherwise. I mean, no one bashed us or anything, but no, we didn't win.

The next round is where things get hot! It was the Honey Pot category, a.k.a. dessert grilled cheese. Our innovative Chef/Detective Avi Goren came up with this brilliant recipe:
- Challah French Toast (Yum. Alone. Forget the rest of the sandwich! Ha.)
- Sweetened Cream Cheese with Vanilla, Cinnamon, & Powdered Sugar
- Thinly Sliced Strawberries & Bannanas
- And Syrup!
We definitely nailed presentation on this one. It was just gorgeous. Still can't believe I don't have pictures of it. I left my camera at home charging. Oops. Anyways- back to our killer sandwich. Well, it was a popular one, that is for sure. Joe was in charge of running the entry plates to the submission tables, and when people saw him heading for the table they literally chased after him to ensure they got a taste.

And so, I am proud to announce that we took 2nd place in the Honey Pot division! We got a crazy dragon plaque that is being displayed at the boy's house. Hells ya, baby!
