Whole Foods- Foodie Blogger Contest!

Hi! I have entered a competition! Hmm- there must be something in the moon alignment right now that is bringing out my competitive edge. Grilled Cheese Invitational this past weekend, this Whole Foods Foodie thingy, and I am playing in a tennis tournament this upcoming weekend. Yee! I am pumped for that.

Anyways, here is my submission into the contest. I really hope I win a trip to Paris & Berlin. How cool would that be? I will hopefully have the opportunity to follow up with this, at which time I will be requesting your supportive votes! Thanks.

Here is a link to the competition site if you would like more information.

3rd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational

WE DID IT!

This past weekend myself and fellow teammates Avi Goren & Joe MacNaughten entered into Austin's 3rd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational. Wow. What a sight! (And a bit of a tummy ache too, but it was worth it.)

This annual event is sponsored by Chedd's Gourmet Grilled Cheese and one of my personal favorites local shops- Antonelli's Cheese.

In our first round of competition, we were up in the Kama Sutra category; basically any kind of bread, cheese, and whatever else you want. Our "Red Light District" sandwich consisted of:
- Sourdough Bread, Buttered on one side
- Smoked Bacon, Apple, & Chive Chutney
- Smoked Gouda Cheese
- Freshly Shaved Guyere Cheese (From Antonelli's)
- And Brie!
I really thought we nailed this one, but the critics felt otherwise. I mean, no one bashed us or anything, but no, we didn't win.

The next round is where things get hot! It was the Honey Pot category, a.k.a. dessert grilled cheese. Our innovative Chef/Detective Avi Goren came up with this brilliant recipe:
- Challah French Toast (Yum. Alone. Forget the rest of the sandwich! Ha.)
- Sweetened Cream Cheese with Vanilla, Cinnamon, & Powdered Sugar
- Thinly Sliced Strawberries & Bannanas
- And Syrup!
We definitely nailed presentation on this one. It was just gorgeous. Still can't believe I don't have pictures of it. I left my camera at home charging. Oops. Anyways- back to our killer sandwich. Well, it was a popular one, that is for sure. Joe was in charge of running the entry plates to the submission tables, and when people saw him heading for the table they literally chased after him to ensure they got a taste.

And so, I am proud to announce that we took 2nd place in the Honey Pot division! We got a crazy dragon plaque that is being displayed at the boy's house. Hells ya, baby!

Accepting our award!

And to our family & friends who made it out to support us, thank you! You are all so great- Dave & Jen Braham and Rachel, Mark, Miles, & Edie Berins.

אונילי- בא לי- לא בא לי- Onili

We are featuring this kick ass band at the upcoming 13th Annual, Israel Block Party. She is coming all the way from Tel Aviv to Austin, Texas. The show should be awesome and we are expecting a great turn out! Come out to The University of Texas, South Mall at 7pm to catch this free performance.

Israel Block Party

I have been working on this incredible pro-Israel event.

Israel Block Party will be taking place at the University of Texas on the South Mall from 3pm to 9pm on Wednesday, March 9. This annual celebration is our opportunity to educate, inform, and spread awareness about Israel's contributions to the world. This is an important event as anti-Israel sentiment is growing on campuses and in the media nationwide. It is essential that we loudly advocate for Israel and its right to exist.

Israel Block Party will cover the UT South Mall from top to bottom in colorful tents that feature the many unique qualities of Israel. We have decided to highlight four of the most prominent cities in the country- Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Be’er Sheva. Each of the representative tents will be filled with informative posters, banners, and other unique items to help demonstrate the advancements of Israeli culture. A selection of tents include Business & Technology, Humanitarian Aid, Environmental Technology, and many more. Tents will also include an interactive component for attendees to actively engage in the material. These activities include “Historical Jeopardy”, “Cash Cab”, basketball shoot-out, face painting, button making, and more. Block Party will also showcase a Hookah tent in addition to an imitation Shuk or Israeli style Market. The shuk will be filled with produce, fresh juicing, Israeli food sampling, and t-shirts for sale, and it will be elaborately decorated in tapestries, soccer jerseys, and much more. It will be a colorful explosion!

More things to look forward to at Israel Block Party include the Falafel Café and ongoing entertainment. Throughout the day we will have performances by drummers and Israeli dancers. The day will excitingly culminate with an evening performance by up and coming Israeli band, Onili

We have over 13 committees comprised of more than 60 student volunteers helping to plan this monumental event. Well over 100 volunteers will be in assistance on the day of the Party itself. Since our event will be taking place right in the middle of campus, we anticipate close to 3,000 UT students, faculty, and staff to peruse the event throughout the day. In addition, we expect a great turnout from the Austin Jewish community as well as supporters from all over Texas, including state and local legislators.  With all this put together, the 2011 Israel Block Party will be one of the largest and greatest pro-Israel event of the year.
